GLOUCESTER COUNTY, Va. — One person is in custody suspected of opening fire on four people in Gloucester.

Deputies responded to reports of a suspicious vehicle and people standing in the road near the intersection of Ditchley Road and Gill Lane just after midnight on Sunday morning.

The caller told dispatchers people were gathered around a car where one person inside was clutching their chest and appeared to need help.

Police received a second call from Nuttall’s Country Store moments later reporting several gunshot victims at a separate location nearby.

Investigators say the victims flagged down a driver who took them to the store to get help.

Someone then called 911 minutes later saying a woman knocked at their door saying her and her friends had all been shot.

First responders arrived and found four wounded people.

Paramedics flew two victims to area hospitals, they took one victim to Riverside-Walter Reed Hospital.

A fourth victim was found dead inside a car at the scene of the original call.

Deputies later took a suspect into custody, they expect charges to be forthcoming.

Virginia State Police and BCI agents are also working the case.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office at 804-693-3890.
