RICHMOND, Va. -- Collegiate School has received a commemorative Golden Football in honor of former student and current Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson.

The Golden Football kicks off the NFL’s golden anniversary of the Super Bowl this season. The gift honors Collegiate for its role in developing and supporting the career of Wilson.

The gifts are going to high schools across the nation and around the world for every player or head coach who graduated from their school and has ever been on an active Super Bowl roster. Wilson has appeared in the last two Super Bowls, winning Super Bowl 48 in 2014.

The NFL Foundation will also provide Collegiate and the other eligible schools with “a new character education curriculum, and the opportunity to apply for grants of up to $5,000 to help support and grow their football programs.”

Collegiate joins nearly 2,000 high schools for the 3,000 players and head coaches.

The school said they are still determining how best to celebrate the honor, and Wilson, with the school’s current JK-12th Grade students.

“Collegiate will find a special place on campus to house the Golden Football and will include Wilson’s football coach and former Collegiate athletics director, Charlie McFall (now retired), in the celebration,” the school said in a press release.

Wilson attended Collegiate School kindergarten through 12th Grade and graduated in 2007.
