HENRICO, Va. – The area’s best spellers take to the stage for a word rumble next week, so mark your calendars.

Spelling champions from each of Henrico County Public Schools’ 45 elementary schools and 12 middle schools will compete Jan. 19 to determine a winner in the 2016 HCPS Divisionwide Spelling Bee.

You will be able to watch it live, though HCPS-TV. For those who want to live vicariously through the young brainiac spellers, and root for the winner, you can watch on your computer or mobile devices by going to the division’s website at http://www.henricoschools.us.

Last year everyone rooted from Tejas Muthusamy, of Moody Middle School, who was a repeat champion. It was a sibling spelling rivalry and he was able to edge out his younger brother Shreyas in the finals.

In both 2014 and 2015, Tejas eventually advanced to the Scripps National Spelling Bee, where he finished in the top 10.

The Scripps contest features more than 280 regional champions from around the nation, and is televised by ESPN.

The spelling bee is set for Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at Hungary Creek Middle School in Glen Allen, on Jan. 19.
