State police ID driver killed in I-64 wreck in Goochland

GOOCHLAND COUNTY, Va. — Virginia State Police have released the name of the driver killed along I-64 east in Goochland County Sunday afternoon.

The single-vehicle wreck happened on I-64 near Oilville Road around 3:30 p.m.

“The trooper’s investigation revealed that a 2001 Lincoln Town car was traveling east on Interstate 64 in the right lane when it ran off the road to the right traveling about 290 feet and struck a tree,” Sgt. Steve Vick with Virginia State Police said.

The driver, 59-year-old Thomas R. Grinde of Virginia Beach died at the scene. Vick said he was wearing a seatbelt.

The wreck closed all lanes of the interstate for cleanup around 5:30 p.m.

The left lane reopened at 6 p.m., but the right lane remained closed.

By 7 p.m. all lanes had reopened and the backup was clear by 8 p.m.
