Police ID man killed after car ran off road, hit tree in Henrico

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. -- Henrico police have identified the man killed in a fatal accident single-vehicle crash early Sunday morning in the county's West End.

Police have identified the victim as Mark K. Gachagua, 50, Henrico.

Officers responded to a crash around 3 a.m. on Wistar Road near Walkenhut Drive, that's in between West Broad and Staples Mill Road near the Willow Crossings subdivision.

Investigators said the driver lost control of his car, ran off the road and slammed into a tree. Paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene.

Officers closed a section of Wistar Road between Willow Crossing Drive and Walkernut Drive until crews cleared the wreckage.

The Henrico Police Crash Team continues to investigate the accident and the preliminary investigation has revealed speed as a contributing factor in the accident.
