Men posing as security company workers worry neighbors

DINWIDDIE COUNTY, Va. -- Deputies are investigating claims that scammers are targeting neighborhoods posing as reps for a security company to gain access to homes Dinwiddie County.

Deputies confirmed some neighborhoods in the county are being targeted by possible scam artists and said a number of calls have come in from Jones Mobile Home Park on Cox Road and Green Acres Mobile Park on Boydton Plank Road.

“It makes the community feel unsafe,” said Dorothy Ramos, who lives in Green Acres.

Residents at Green Acres said a white van with four people inside has been circling the park. The men inside, who claim they work for ADT Security, go door to door trying to talk their way inside the homes.

Ramos said what is even more concerning is that the van has been spotted at night.

As a result, Ramos said the entire mobile home park is on the look-out.

She is also taking extra precautions to keep her family safe.

“Keep your kids closer and your doors and windows locked,” she warned.

Authorities are asking anyone with information the suspicious activity to call the sheriff's department at 804-469-4550.
