PETERSBURG, Va. — Police confirm Petersburg shooting suspect, Christopher John Jones, turned himself into authorities Thursday night.

Jones was the subject of a four hour South Chesterfield police standoff Wednesday afternoon and evening. The standoff occurred in 20200 block of Gandy Avenue.

Police said Jones, 26, who lives at the home, was wanted by Petersburg Police for four counts of attempted malicious wounding.

Police said the incident started when Jones was spotted in the neighborhood by an officer around 1:20 p.m. Officers gave chase and the suspect was last seen going into a residence. Officers were unable to make contact with Jones and additional police resources, including the SWAT and Negotiations teams, were called to the residence.

Jones was holed up in the home for hours, but escaped when police entered to get his grandmother out of the home. Police believe Jones may have snuck out of the back door. The grandmother was unharmed.
