RICHMOND, Va. — Members have Richmond’s LGBTQ community have a new person to connect with at the Richmond Police Department. Fourteen-year veteran Captain Angela Greene was named as the Richmond Police Department’s new LGBTQ community liaison. Greene will remain as the commander of the Community and Youth Intervention Unit as she takes on her new role.

“My goal is to bring the same dedication, professionalism and compassion to the LGBTQ community as the officers I lead in the CYIS Unit do with the people they serve,” Captain Greene said. “My desire is to enhance a stronger, diversified and equitable partnership between the Richmond Police Department and members of the LGBTQ community.”

Richmond Police Chief Alfred Durham cited Captain Greene’s “great experience interacting with people from all walks of life.”

Greene replaces Richmond Police Major Odetta Johnson, who retired last month.

“We are very pleased with the appointment of Captain Greene and look forward to working with her,” Diversity Richmond President and Executive Director Bill Harrison said. “Both former Richmond Police Chief Ray Tarasovic and [current] Chief Alfred Durham have been very supportive in building relationships and strengthening community ties. This will only bring about a stronger and healthier Richmond.”
