PLANO, Texas — A 54-year-old woman from North Texas gave birth to her granddaughter Wednesday.
Tracey Thompson served as a surrogate for her daughter, Kelley McKissack, who has suffered three miscarriages and battled infertility for years, according to KTVT.
“My husband and I had been trying for a baby for 3 years,” McKissack said.
The baby girl was given the name Kelcey, a combination of the names of her mother and grandmother, Tracey and Kelley. Kelcey weighed 6 pounds and 11 ounces.
“The miracle happened and god watched over us,” Thompson said.
The unlikely pregnancy was considered high risk, so doctors closely monitored her throughout the pregnancy.
Thompson was seven years past menopause, but doctors at the Medical Center of Plano said they were able to use medical advances to prepare her to have another baby. She received embryos in April.
McKissack said she will never be able to repay her mom for such as precious gift.
“My lovely mom offered to give me the greatest gift I could ever have in my life.”
