CHESTERFIELD, Va. – Neighbors in a North Chesterfield subdivision woke up to sounds of gunfire Thursday, just after midnight.
They were shocked to discover that a neighbor’s house near the corner of Hackney and Brambleton Roads had been targeted by a gunman, according to police.
The home was riddled with bullets.
"It's very surprising, it's scary, very scary for this neighborhood," said Alan Carter while he waited with his son for the school bus -- just a few feet away from the targeted home.
"There is no telling what these kids heard last night, no telling what are they thinking, are they scared to go to school?” Carter said. “Are they scared to stand out here and wait for the bus?"
Police said no one was hit by the bullets. Regardless, Carter says it is time for the senseless violence to stop.
"Think about what you are doing, think about if it was your house, your kids, your wife, your family, how would you feel?" Carter asked.
Chesterfield police are still searching for a gunman or gunmen. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers: 804-748-0664.
