19-year-old Fulton man dies after being shot multiple times in Richmond motel

RICHMOND, Va. -- The Richmond Police Department has identified the victim of a homicide that occurred early Tuesday morning on the city’s south side.

Shortly before 1 a.m., officers responded to the 6500 block of Midlothian Turnpike for a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, they located Mark Jackson-Silver, 19, of the 1300 block of Jennie Scher Road, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was taken to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

He was shot multiple times inside the Midlothian Inn motel.

Seven days into 2016, Richmond Police are investigating the city's fifth homicide of the new year.

The shooting comes one day after two men robbed people at the same motel along the 6500 block of Midlothian Turnpike. Police did not say whether the crimes were related.

Major Crimes detectives are working all available leads in this case, and continue to gather additional information as part of the ongoing investigation.
