"Fortunately, by the grace of God this ended peacefully," Charlottesville Police Chief Timothy Longo said.

Th incident happened at a home in the 2500 block of Jefferson Park Avenue after officers said Silva's 17-year-old girlfriend said he  was holding her against her will and had threatened her with a gun.

"We got a call here this morning, shortly after 6 o'clock, for a disturbance,” Longo said. “It was a domestic disturbance. A female said she was threatened with a firearm."

Police said the 25-year-old then refused to come out of the house and barricaded himself inside when officers arrived with warrants for abduction and possession of a firearm.

"We dispatched our tactical team and crisis negotiation team to this location," Longo said.

The situation created quite a commotion as police blocked off streets around the home, which is not far from a church.

"Well, obviously it's a tactical situation we have a pretty large perimeter set up,” Longo said. “It's a residential community a beautiful day, there were a number of churches that were letting out."
