VCU, UVA and Virginia Tech win their conference openers

In the Saturday Feel Good Edition sportscast, the VCU Rams won their fourth straight 71-47 over George Mason in the A-10 opener for both teams.  Melvin Johnson had a game high 22 in the win.  Ahmed Hamdy Mohamed added a career high 16, all in the second half for the Rams, who won their fifth in a row over the Patriots.

The Richmond Spiders lost their conference opener at home 77-73 to St. Joe's.  Shawn'Dre Jones, who started for the Spiders after he rolled his ankle in the loss to Texas Tech on Tuesday, scored a game high 22 in the loss.

UVA, ranked 5th in this week's polls, won their 11th in row after a 77-66 win over Notre Dame.  Malcolm Brogdon scored 20 of his team high 24 points in the second half.

Virginia Tech won their ACC opener 73-68 in overtime over N.C. State to snap a five game losing streak to the Wolfpack.

Richmond Spiders Offensive Coordinator Charlie Fisher has been named the new Head Coach at Western Illinois.
