MANHATTAN – A couple from California is describing their birthday trip to New York City as a bedbug “nightmare” at an upper west side hotel.
WABC reported Elgin Ozlen posted a video to YouTube showing that his hotel’s bed at the Astor on the Park in Manhattan was crawling with bedbugs.
It cost hundreds of dollars to have the couple’s belongings cleaned. Meanwhile Ozlen told the station his girlfriend’s body was “still inflamed” and that she is upset that the tiny scratches and bites could mean permanent scarring.
“On my birthday, I’m in the hospital, and I’m washing the best clothes that I brought that I own for this vacation, and during that process many of the clothes became damaged, because they’re not meant to be dried,” Ozlen said. “We were expecting a vacation to remember the rest of our lives, and we will definitely remember it for the rest of our lives, but it won’t be a pleasant memory.”
Olzen told the station hotel was apologetic and did give him a refund.
WABC said the hotel declined to comment on the incident. Additionally, the station reports the Department of Housing has not yet released a statement.
