A magnitude-6.7 earthquake occurred Monday morning in northeastern India, 29 kilometers (18 miles) west of the city of Imphal, the capital of Manipur state, according the U.S. Geological Survey.

The temblor was centered in an isolated area. There were no immediate reports of damages or injuries from the scene or from Imphal, with its population more than 250,000.

The quake, which took place about 55 kilometers (about 34 miles) underground, originally was reported as 6.8-magnitude but that was later revised to 6.7 magnitude, USGS said.
