RICHMOND, Va. -- It has been a very hard year for Samantha. So when Mike Goldberg heard her dog "Hamilton" was sick and had to spend the weekend before Christmas being treated in the ER, he stepped in to help as part of the CBS 6 Month of Giving.

"I wanted to do something for a pet in need and I heard about your situation this weekend," Goldberg said. "So we would like to pick up a good portion of Hamilton's bill."

Samantha, who said she had seen the Month of Giving on Facebook, was overcome with emotion.

"You have no idea how much this means to me," she said. "Even on top of that, my dad got killed last year at work. My brother had an accident, so this just means the world to me."

"Well, I know this is obviously a challenging time of the year -- and to be going through what you're going through -- we wanted to make it a little bit easier for you," Goldberg explained.

And even more good news. "Hamilton" really chowed down during Mike's visit.

The CBS 6 news team is in the community all month, helping people through random acts of kindness. We hope those who are helped will be inspired to pay it forward. If you've been inspired to pay it forward, click here to share your story.
