PETERSBURG, Va. -- Singer and songwriter Trey Songz was back in his hometown of Petersburg Wednesday afternoon as he surprised some area kids at the city's public library.
The singer gave away 68 pairs of shoes to children in need.
The event was made possible through a partnership between the city of Petersburg and the school system.
In addition to the shoes, the kids got Toys R Us gift cards, pizza and had the chance to take pictures with the star singer.
The 2002 Petersburg high school graduate also offered some words of inspiration to the kids.
“I come from here and I want to be an inspiration for you forever and always, I’ll never leave Petersburg behind,” said Songz.
“Success is not something that you imagine it’s something you can make happen,” said Songz. “Each and every one of you young individuals here can become whatever you want to be and do whatever you want to do.”
