RICHMOND, Va. -- When it came time to take part in the CBS 6 Month of Giving, Melissa Hipolit drew inspiration from her grandparents. Melissa chose to surprise veterans at McGuire VA Medical Center in South Richmond.
"I brought them Pearl's cupcakes and listened to their service stories," she said. "I also thanked them for their service."
One veteran said Melissa's visit made his day.
“I’m thankful, talking with you,” said one WWII veteran. “You put a smile on my face and I feel happy.”
Melissa said she wanted to honor her grandparents through her random act of kindness.
"My grandma died this year and my grandfather was a World War II veteran," she said.
