HENRICO COUNTY, Va. -- Henrico police charged a Richmond woman with four counts of petit larceny after she allegedly stole pain medication from an elderly resident at Our Lady of Hope in Short Pump on four separate occasions.

Thirty-year-old Janine R. Mitchell worked at Our Lady of Hope, and police said she allegedly stole the oxycodone in November, including on Thanksgiving day.

Police said nursing home staff found out about the crime when they realized Mitchell was not on duty or away from the facility every time she allegedly gave the resident the medication.

WTVR CBS 6 asked Mitchell about the allegations. She declined to speak on camera, but did tell us she was innocent.

The nursing home administrator said no comment when we asked about the arrest.

A man who lives nearby calls the situation unfortunate.

"That's surprising to me because Our Lady of Hope has always been a positive presence in this community, so it's disappointing to hear about something like that taking place," BJ Marshall said.

According to the state, Janine Mitchell is a licensed registered nurse in Virginia, and her license doesn't expire for another year.

Mitchell said she no longer works at Our Lady of Hope, but said she will be employed elsewhere soon.
