CHESTER -- A man suspected of stealing ribs from a Chester grocery store was hit by a car while fleeing from police and crossing Rt. 10.
Police said the man was suspected of stealing cooked ribs from Martin’s in the 12600 block of Jefferson Davis Hwy. An officer saw the man leaving the area while eating the ribs on a bicycle and confronted him. Police said the man then took off running on foot.
The man successfully crossed the eastbound lane, but was struck by a vehicle when stepping into the westbound lanes on Rt. 10.
Police said the man suffered broken legs and is in serious condition at the hospital. His injuries are non-life threatening.
