CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. — A Midlothian woman has been arrested and charged in an attempted arson at a residence in Hampton.

Sundari Prasad, 42, has been charged with three crimes including breaking and entering with intent and threats to bomb or damage building.

Hampton Fire said that the residence was occupied by an adult female and a child under one. Fire officials responded to calls of a possible fire on December 10. When officials arrived there was no fire, but the suspect had already left the area.

Officials investigated the situation by taking witness statements and collecting physical evidence at the scene. Hampton Fire said they also found a liquid consistent with a petroleum product at the scene. They are awaiting a state lab test to confirm.

During their investigation, police were able to determine that the suspect was in the Richmond area and called Chesterfield police.

The suspect was interviewed in Chesterfield before being taken to the Hampton City Jail.

Police said additional charges are pending after consultation with the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office.
