CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. -- A Chesterfield mother who recently lost her job became the latest person helped during the CBS 6 Month of Giving. All month long, the CBS 6 news team will be in the community, helping people through random acts of kindness. We hope those who are helped will be inspired to pay it forward. If you've been inspired to pay it forward, click here to share your story.

Reporter Jon Burkett chose to surprise someone in line at a Toys R Us in Chesterfield.

"They have no clue what's about to go down," Jon said to the camera before he approached the mother in the checkout line.

"I'm going to pick this up," Jon said as he surprised the mother.

"You're going to pick what up?" the mother, who was buying gifts for her 11 and seven-year-old daughters, asked with a shocked look on her face.

"I'm going to pick this tab up," Jon replied.

"Why?" the mother asked.

"Because this is part of our 31 days of giving," Jon answered.

"Since last Friday it's been stressful," the mom, who said she recently lost her job, explained after giving Jon a big hug. "We did not know how everything was going to work out, but Jon just made it a little bit easier."

"It's fun being Santa Claus, it really is," Jon said. "I could get used to this."
