HENRICO, Va. – Henrico Police arrested a man they said is responsible for a recent rash of robberies along the West Broad Street corridor, included the Dairy Queen at Willow Lawn, but he was also wanted for previous crimes.

Travis Wayne Vance, 29, was arrested for a string of commercial robberies, which started on Dec. 5, police said. His description and modus operandi matched a series of crimes, police said.

The Dairy Queen robbery happened at about 7 p.m. as shoppers filled the outdoor shopping center and surrounding parking lot.

Security video of the robbery showed a man in a coat walk into the Dairy Queen. Workers said he sparked up a conversation about working there. He then unzipped his coat, said he had a gun, asked for a paper bag and demanded money from the cash registers, they said.

No customers were inside the Dairy Queen at the time of the robbery and no one was hurt.

Five days after the first reported crime, on Thursday, Dec. 10, Vance was taken into custody and charged with three counts of robbery, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by convicted felon, and wearing a mask in public.

Vance was also arrested for eight counts of forgery, four counts of obtaining money by false pretenses, two counts of possession of stolen property, and one count of grand larceny.

These charges were placed after Vance was implicated in a series of larcenies which occurred between Oct. 1, 2015, and Nov.23, 2015.

In each incident, Vance took property and checks from the victims.
