Driver cited after bus backs into Henrico ditch, hurting children

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. -- Four students from Ward Elementary School  were taken to the hospital as a precaution after their school bus backed into a ditch along the 6700 block of Monahan Road Wednesday morning. The students' injuries were described as minor, according to a Henrico Police spokesman. The school bus driver was issued a summons for improper backing.

There were between 25 and 30 students on the bus when it backed into the ditch at about 7:27 a.m. The bus incident happened about a mile and a half from the Darbytown Road school. Parents with children on the bus received a phone call from the school.
