SPOTSYLVANIA, Va. – “My cousin Katelin Akens was supposed to board a flight and never checked in,” said Tiffany Mullins, when she reached out to a CBS 6 reporter.
Aken was supposed to fly out days ago, on Saturday, Dec. 5
But on Monday, her luggage was found in a ditch on River Road, in Spotsylvania, near the Fredericksburg city limit.
Shortly after Mullins reached out to the media, the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the luggage was recovered.
Akens was taken to the Franconia-Springfield Metro station and dropped her off by her family. She had planned to take the Metro to Regan National Airport to catch a flight.
According to family members, she never arrived at her destination.
“The circumstances surrounding this case are suspicious enough to warrant our full investigative efforts, in attempting to locate Miss Akens,” said Sheriff Roger L. Harris.
Akens is a white female, 5'4" and 122 lbs. with blond hair and blue eyes.
