PRINCE GEORGE COUNTY, Va -- The Benjamin Harrison Bridge remained closed Thursday morning while crews assessed damage from an overnight crash.
Police said a tractor trailer slammed into one of the bridge's supports just after 12:15 Thursday morning. The impact knocked the bridge support to the ground. The truck driver, however, kept going.
Police were still looking for that truck driver.
VDOT officials said they expected the bridge to remain closed through rush hour on Thursday morning. Cars would not be allowed to cross over it, and boats would not be allowed to cross under it.
An estimated four thousand drivers use the Benjamin Harrison Bridge every day, according to VDOT.
