RICHMOND, Va. -- The Jefferson Hotel held its annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony in the lobby of the historic downtown Richmond hotel Monday night. The festivities began at 5:30 p.m. with music and mingling. The actual Christmas tree lighting ceremony started around 5:50 p.m.
"The evening’s program includes a host of holiday characters and some of the area’s most talented musicians and performers. The ceremony will conclude with the lighting of the tree by Santa and Mrs. Claus," a hotel spokesperson said. "This event is free and open to the public. Guests are invited to the Empire Ballroom following the ceremony to enjoy complimentary refreshments."
In addition to the Christmas tree, guests were also able to see Pastry Chef Sara Ayyash's Gingerbread Display.
"This year’s confectionery showpiece includes thousands of pounds of gingerbread, royal icing and candy in a magical depiction of a whimsical holiday village," the hotel spokesperson added. "The display will be in the Palm Court Lobby through January 3, 2016."
