Hokies lose in Beamer’s last home game, Spiders win CAA automatic bid

Frank Beamer's final home game at Lane Stadium ended with a 30-27 overtime loss to 17th ranked North Carolina.  Virginia Tech rallied from down 14 in the fourth to tie the game at 24 to send it into OT.   Quarterback Michael Brewer was 20-35 for 273 yards, 2 td's and 2 int's.  Marquise Williams led the Tar Heels to a game winning touchdown in the first overtime to end the cinderella story.

UVA beat Duke 42-34 behind a career day from Matt Johns who threw for 344 yards and two touchdowns in the Cavaliers third straight win at home.

The Richmond Spiders claimed a share of the CAA title and got the automatic bid to the FCS playoffs after a 20-9 win over William & Mary in the South's Oldest Rivalry.  Their win coupled with JMU's 38-29 win over Villanova gave the Spiders the bid to the Playoffs.  Jacobi Green rushed for 217 yards and a TD against the Tribe.  UR, W&M and JMU should all make the FCS Playoff field.

Virginia Union's first trip to the Division II Playoffs since 1991 ended with a 40-21 loss at Slippery Rock.  Panthers' quarterback Shawheem Dowdy threw for 375 yards and Devin Anderson had 174 yards receiving and a touchdown.  Union ended their season at 8-3.

In the VISAA Division II State Final, Trinity won their second straight State championship after a 39-21 win over STAB.

In the Division I Final, Benedictine beat Bishop Ireton for the 2nd year in a row, 35-6 to repeat as State Champs.
