PETERSBURG, Va. -- Richard Bland College (RBC) celebrated the opening of its new Social Sciences, Humanities and English building. The college plans to use the formerly vacant building to expand enrollment and offer new programs to students. The 33,000-square foot building features a 225-seat auditorium, art studio and technology-smart classrooms, the college announced.

"The new addition to the Academic Village has connected faculty and students in the heart of campus, and for the first time in College history, all academic activity is taking place on the west campus," RBC President Debbie Sydow said.

University officials said the building will allow professors to work more closely with students, keeping classrooms and offices on one side of campus.

"The result of the transformation is a truly cutting-edge facility, equipped with technology that pushes faculty and students alike to change the teaching and learning process. In addition, the expanded auditorium gives RBC a venue for lectures and other educational activities. There are no better-appointed facilities for college students in the Virginia than those in this new building,” RBC Dean of Faculty and Academic Effectiveness Dr. Vern Lindquist said.
