Teenager hurt in shooting near Richmond elementary school

RICHMOND, Va. -- A teenager suffered a non-life threatening injury when he was shot Sunday night in Richmond. The shooting was reported at about 8:45 p.m. Sunday along the 1100 block of Sumpter Street, a few blocks from Maymont Elementary.

When Richmond Police responded to the shooting call, officers found a 16-year-old victim. Circumstances around the shooting remain under investigation and have not yet been released. The child was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Police have not yet released a description of the shooting suspect. Anyone with information was asked to call Crime Stoppers at 804-780-1000
