NEW YORK — H&M is joining the list of businesses that will close their doors for Thanksgiving Day.

The fashion retailer released a statement Monday saying that all US stores will be closed to give store employees a chance to spend time with their families.

“H&M would like to show our appreciation to our employees for their hard work year round, so in the tradition of Thanksgiving, H&M will close our US stores on Thanksgiving Day, allowing our store teams to enjoy this time with their families and friends,” said Daniel Kulle, President of H&M North America.

Several large retailers including Costco, Staples and REI announced that they’ll be closed for the holiday.

“We want our customers and associates to enjoy Thanksgiving their own way,” Staples North American President Demos Paneros said in a statement.

The stores will remain open online and reopen for Black Friday with the exception of REI.

H&M’s announcement comes on the day that Target released their 40-page catalog of Black Friday sales.
