HENRICO COUNTY, Va. -- A Henrico teenager who was struck by a hit-and-run while walking home from work Friday night is asking the public to help find the person responsible.

“You could have killed me and you didn't even care,” Alex Godfrey told reporter Joe St. George Sunday evening. “You didn't hit the brakes -- not one time.”

The 19-year-old said she is lucky to be alive after getting struck by an SUV on the section of Hanover Road near Midage Road late Friday night in Sandston.

Godfrey showed us her injuries, which include severe internal bruising on her upper back.

She said while the only part of the car that hit her was the side view mirror, the impact tossed her into a nearby ditch. The driver did not stop.

“They hit me so hard the mirror and the whole casing fell off,” she said.

Henrico police have launched an investigation. Officers said their biggest clue is the vehicle’s missing mirror, which belongs to dark colored Ford SUV.

Alex's mother, Stephanie, has started a social media campaign to help find the driver.

“All of my friends in the Sandston/Highland Springs area,” Godfrey posted on Facebook. “Please be on the lookout for an SUV/minivan type vehicle missing the chrome passenger side mirror and has LED taillights."

As for Alex, she hopes the county considers putting in sidewalks since she doesn't have a car and needs to walk to work.

As for why she did this interview, she hopes the person who did this comes forward.

“Why didn't you have any compassion,” she asked. “You hit a person. That didn't mean anything to you?”

Alex was walking along the side of the road so late because her shift at work just ended.

Anyone with information should call Henrico Police at 804-501-5000 or Crime Stoppers at 804-780-1000.
