(WTVR) – Chad Hornik, the head football coach at Thomas Jefferson high school for the past four seasons, resigned his position after Friday night’s come from behind win over Deep Run. Hornik compiled a record of 9-32 which included the program’s first playoff appearance since 1976. The Viking’s record in the 7 years before Hornik’s arrival was 1-69. TJ finished 3-7 this year.

“My coaches and I accomplished a lot in four years” Hornik said. “It’s just time to move on and let someone else take the program from here. There players now know how to work hard, treat each other with respect, work as a team and win. The foundation is now stronger than ever at TJ”.

Hornik has overseen several improvements within the Vikings program including a better playing surface, new scoreboard and a renewed interest in moving the program forward. “One of my most important goals was leaving it better than I found it” Hornik said. “The facility is worlds above the way I found it and a huge part of that came with the assistance of the TJ Vikings Fund.”

“Most importantly, the players are now both stronger mentally and physically and that is my most proud accomplishment.”

Hornik’s previous coaching stops included assistant positions at Deep Run and Glen Allen. He does not yet have another position with any other program, but said he is looking forward to his next challenge whatever that may be.
