KENNETT SQUARE, Pa. — Reports of needles found inside of Halloween candy in the Philadelphia suburb of Kennett Square, has turned out to be a hoax according to officials.

Police in Kennett Square reported two children found the needles in five Twix bars.

needlecandyAfter an investigation, Chester County District Attorney Tom Hogan told CBSPhilly, while digging through a dumpster where some of the candy was thrown away, detectives found a spool of thread.

“Which immediately raised the question as to whether or not the child had taken the needles from a home sewing kit and had put the needles into the candy bar herself,” said Hogan.

Hogan said the children who made the report have recanted their statements.

Police said an 11-year-old girl admitted to doing it herself. A 12-year-old boy admitted he imitated reports of the needles inside of Halloween candy.

Hogan said the families of the children have been cooperative, and punishment will be handled by parents.
