CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. –The legal team representing Jesse Matthew in his capital murder trial want to hear from more than a law enforcement officers.
Matthew’s legal team asked the judge to issue witness summons for 12 Charlottesville Police Officers, one Albemarle officer, and one Louisa County Sheriff’s Deputy.
The Louisa deputy handled bloodhounds during some of the searches for the 18-year-old Hannah Graham, who vanished in Sept. 2014. The remains of the second-year University of Virginia student were found just over a month later, in Albemarle County.
The defense team is expected to question a number of search warrants executed in the case. The subpoenas are for police involved in the early stages of the case.
The hearing takes place on November 10.
Matthew’s trial for the murder of Graham gets underway in July 2016. He was convicted this year of rape and attempted murder of a 2005 victim who’s DNA was connected to another case for which Matthew still has to face.
He was recently given three life sentences for that 2005 case which connected him to the murder of Morgan Harrington. That trial will be held in Oct. 2016.
