LOS ANGELES -- The body of a 20-year-old man landed on a freeway sign after he was ejected from a vehicle during a fatal crash on Friday morning, California Highway Patrol officials said. The deadly incident happened on the southbound 5 Freeway, the Los Angeles Fire Department tweeted.

A 20-year-old man was ejected from a vehicle and landed on the freeway sign, CHP officials confirmed. The body was covered with a sheet and fire officials were working to remove it from the sign as of 9:40 a.m., according to KTLA.

A badly damaged black car, possibly a Prius, was seen on the roadway under the sign. It was not clear if any other vehicles were involved. Officials said the incident happened north of Colorado Boulevard, but Google Maps showed it was Colorado Street.

Two lanes on the southbound 5 Freeway's right side were closed following the crash.

The incident happened in Griffith Park area and bordered Atwater Village.
