Skunk found in Glen Allen tests positive for rabies

HENRICO, Va. – A skunk found in the backyard of a Glen Allen home, near Meadow Farm Crump,  tested positive for rabies.

On the evening of Monday, Oct.19, Henrico Police Animal Protection received a call for a deceased skunk in the back yard of a home in the 10800 Block of Sheppards Way Drive.

When officers arrived they discovered the remains of a skunk that was located in a fenced in backyard, along with the homeowner’s two dogs.

Positive test results came back from lab testing.

The dogs involved in this incident had current rabies vaccinations.

The dogs have received booster shots and will be quarantined at their owner’s home. There have been no reports of any additional human or animal exposure.

Officials said this is the eleventh confirmed positive rabies case in Henrico County for 2015.

Henrico Police Animal Protection reminded everyone to be sure to keep their pets’ rabies vaccinations current to ensure the safety of their pets.
