RICHMOND, Va. -- Richmond Animal Care and Control has partnered with Alpha Dog Swim Club to get dogs out of the shelter and into the pool.

The new program is designed to improve the lives of shelter dogs at RACC.

Every Monday from noon to 2 p.m. four adoptable shelter dogs are brought to the swim club on the 8900 block of Patterson Ave. in Richmond in an effort to help them exercise and become more socialized, according to Christie Chipps Peters, Director of Richmond Animal Care & Control.

"We have a few that are recovering from surgery that this, the swimming, is therapeutic to them," she told CBS 6.

RACC welcomes the public to meet their animals at swim time every Monday.

Donors can also sponsor additional swims for shelter dogs here.
