HENRICO COUNTY, Va. — Regency Square, a shopping mall nestled near North Parham and Quioccasin roads in Henrico’s West End, celebrated the big 4-0 over the weekend. The mall first opened to the public on October 15, 1975. Regency Square kicked off its year-long art themed birthday celebration Saturday with a big balloon drop right in the middle of the mall.

Mall managers said they went with an art-themed birthday celebration to honor the developer’s original passion.

“Before construction began on the physical structure of Regency Square in 1975, Leonard Farber, retail developer, was busy planning the vision for the interior of the center. He commissioned four sculptures to be installed prior to opening the doors on October 15, 1975. One of the original pieces, The Juggler by Chaim Gross, remains in the center today,” marketing director Julie Gordon said. “As a nod to the past, Regency Square is again incorporating artistic elements in the center 40 years later.”
