STAFFORD, Va. — Will the country newest Legoland theme park be built off Interstate 95 in Virginia? Leaders in Stafford County hope so. For several years, Stafford has been working to secure a Legoland near Centreport Parkway, according to a report by the Fredericksburg Free Lance-Star.

“We have not received a final response from Lego,” Stafford County Administrator Anthony Romanello replied via email when asked for an update on Legoland. “We fully understand that they continue their pursuit of a Mid-Atlantic site, and we have long understood from them that Stafford remains very competitive.”

The Merlin Entertainments Group, which owns Legoland, did not respond to a request for an update on the Stafford situation. Previously, a spokeswoman for Merlin told the Free Lance-Star they continued to look for “opportunities in the United States, specifically the East Coast, and while Stafford County is being considered as a location, we are still exploring all of our options.”

Stafford would have to alter some of its tax structure in order for the Legoland plan to work, the Free Lance-Star reported. Legoland currently operates U.S. theme parks in both Florida and California.

Will Legoland choose Virginia to build new theme park? Stafford County leaders would like an answer to that question too.
