HANOVER COUNTY, Va. – Security has been stepped up at two schools in Hanover County Thursday after officials discovered vandalism described as "rudimentary pictures of a gun."

The crude drawings were discovered Wednesday in the bathrooms at Lee Davis High School and Liberty Middle School, according to the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office.

As a result, officials with the sheriff's office said there would be an increased uniform presence at the schools.

"The incidents resemble similar acts of vandalism that were recently reported by area media outlets," said Hanover County Maj. Mike Trice in a news release. "There is no information to indicate there is a credible threat, however, as a common practice there will be an increase in the presence of uniform officers at both schools."

Officials are working to determine the individual or individuals responsible for the vandalism.

If you have information that could help investigators call the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office at 804-365-6140 or Crime Stoppers at 804-780-1000.

Additional Threats

An eighth-grader was arrested and charged with a felony last week for the communication of a threat on school property after an incident at Colonial Heights Middle School. That incident prompted extra security after vandalism depicting a gun with a date was discovered in a school restroom Thursday afternoon.

That threat came on the heels of three similar situations at Henrico schools over the last two weeks.

Highland Springs High School had an extra police presence on Friday, Oct. 9 after a threat was made verbally in school and then spread via social media Thursday.

Additionally, added police protection was put in place at Godwin High School on Friday, Oct. 2 after a student spotted another drawing of a gun with a date and a threat. Then on Sept. 30 and again on Oct. 1, two messages were discovered at Hungary Creek Middle School.
