CAROLINE COUNTY, Va. - A loaded semi-automatic handgun, brass knuckles and scissors were found on a teenage girl inside Caroline Middle School Thursday afternoon, according to multiple law enforcement sources.
School officials said they were alerted to the possibility of a student possessing a weapon around noon Thursday. The School Resource Officer was notified and the weapon was confiscated immediately. That student was found and removed from school grounds without incident. The evidence was handed over to Virginia State Police, those sources added.
Students' parents received an email alert about the weapon. The email stated no one was injured and there was no threat to students:
At approximately 12:00 p.m. today, administrators at Caroline Middle School were alerted to the possibility of student possessing a weapon. Student safety is always a priority and the student was immediately isolated and moved to another area. The School Resource Officer was notified, the weapon was confiscated immediately, and the student was removed from the school grounds without incident. At no time were any students threatened or hurt. The school will continue to work with the Sheriff’s Department in the investigation. We are not able to give any additional information at this time as it is an active investigation.
Still, some parents said it was a serious safety concern that a student reportedly brought a loaded gun to school, and they weren't made aware of specific details.
