RICHMOND, Va. — “The Cancer Hater Challenge” is coming to Richmond for the first time.  The 24-hour fundraiser involving people running on treadmills has been held in Newport News only, but this 3rd annual event has now expanded to Fredericksburg and Richmond.

Participants raise money for the VCU Massey Cancer Center by running on a treadmill and getting people to donate, or by sponsoring a runner.

The organizer is Brianna Kirby who CBS 6 profiled in 2013.  She ran 12 half marathons in 12 months to honor her mother and raise money for cancer research.

One of the participants is cancer survivor Tammy Harrison.  She just completed her first ultra-marathon and has committed to running seven hours on a treadmill.  CBS 6 also profiled her as part of Buddy Check 6 earlier this year because of her mission to raise money to fight cancer as her sister battled breast cancer.
