Weekend Events: Richmond Folk Festival, Westover Church Autumn Pilgrimage House Tour and more

The Richmond Folk Festival is this weekend!

Richmond Folk Festival October 9 – 11,  Downtown Richmond Waterfront, includes Brown’s Island, Tredegar and surrounding areas, Three days, Seven performing stages and an eighth stage “Richmond Times Dispatch Public Square Tent”, concerts are FREE but look for the orange bucket for donations. The festival features music from around the world, including one of the founding fathers of Hip Hop, GrandMaster Flash, blues & gospel, Cajun, Ethiojazz, music from Colombia, Dominican Republic, Persia, bluegrass just to name a few of the more than 40 groups performing. More details http://www.richmondfolkfestival.org/ or Facebook https://www.facebook.com/Richmondfolkfestival?fref=ts. There’s FREE parking and FREE shuttles available from Richmond City Stadium, 3201 Maplewood Avenue. All shuttles will stop at two festival locations: one at 2nd Street and one at 5th Street and leave regularly throughout the day.

Six homes including the Historic Westover Episcopal Church in Charles City are gearing up for the Westover Church Autumn Pilgrimage House Tour,  Saturday, October 10, from 9am – 5pm, rain or shine. The house tour is a major fundraiser for the church and homes featured  are the Berkeley Plantation, built circa 1726, Dancing Point built in 1973, Kimages, built in 1963, Edgewood Plantation, circa 1849, The Glebe, circa 1730, North Bend, circa 1801, Sherwood Forest Plantation home of President John Tyler, circa 1660 with additions through 1845 and Westover Episcopal Church, one of the most historic parishes in the nation  at 402 years old. In addition to the house and garden tour there will be events in and around Westover during the day featuring the Chickahominy Tribal Dancers at 11am, and the Charles City Spiritual Ensemble at 12:30 in the sanctuary. StarGames Presents Nancy Kerrigan’s Halloween On Ice, Sunday, October 11, at Richmond Coliseum and Hosted by two-time Olympic medalist Nancy Kerrigan, a good time on ice for the whole family and features some of the most well-known skaters performing live and in costume to Halloween-themed music. The all-star cast includes US National Champion, 3 time US Champion Johnny Weir and 4 time World Champion Kurt Browning. 9th Annual Pink Tie Gala Masquerade Ball presented by Bon Secours Cancer Institute, Saturday, October 17, 7:30pm – 12:30am at The Greater Richmond Convention Center Ballroom. Raising funds for Breast Cancer awareness, grant programs, survivor support, education and research in the Richmond community.
