RICHMOND, Va. — A special delivery for Stone Brewing Company was photographed as it moved along the James River.

On Wednesday some of the barrel tanks that will be used for fermenting beer were delivered. There will be a total of 12 vats delivered, a company representative said.

There will be eight 250 barrel fermenters, eight 1,000 barrel fermenters and four bright tanks at the East Coast distribution site, opening in the Fulton neighborhood next spring.

For your reference, a barrel of beer equates to 31 gallons of liquid volume (or two standard 15.5 gallon kegs). In basic math, that equals more pints than humanly possible to ever drink of Stone’s beer (not a challenge) — we think.

The vats were built in Germany before arriving stateside and floating up the James to their permanent positions.

More are en route to Richmond this week, and some roads will be closed for the deliveries on Oct. 8, likely sometime around late morning or early afternoon.

A Stone Brewery representative said they can’t predict exactly when those closures will take place.

Community Relations Manager in Richmond Juliellen Sarver wrote:

The roads will be closed intermittently over the two days. The tank delivery is a process so specific times of closure cannot be determined exactly. Alternate routes are available from Rocketts Landing via Orleans Street-Admiral Gravely Blvd-Government-Broad. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
