PRINCE GEORGE COUNTY, Va. -- Local parents are concerned that after one month into the school year, Prince George school buses are still late getting students home after school.

Late buses are a problem parents have been complaining about since school started in September.

"I don't know how to fix it," Jerry Giminez, a Prince George father said.

Giminez told CBS 6 reporter Joe St. George that while his son school gets off at 3:30, sometimes he doesn't get home until 5:15 in the afternoon.

"By the time he gets home he has no time to do anything," Giminez added.

CBS 6 cameras were positioned at a bus stop Wednesday; we tracked bus number 69 arriving at 4:53 p.m.

CBS 6 went to the Prince George School Board --- looking to interview officials we spoke with in September who said the problem was going to be fixed within a week.

No one was available for an on camera interview but Jerry Warren, a school board member, said the delay in getting students home was the result of not enough bus drivers.

Warren sent us a statement:

The Prince George County School District is dedicated to resolving the transportation issues in a timely manner. We understand the impacts that late buses have on parents, students, and employees. Our transportation department has been working diligently to implement solutions while also developing a longer term strategy for success. We will be looking at all facets of the transportation department including; compensation, process, technology, routing, staffing, etc. to ensure that we have a well rounded plan to meet our objective of providing safe and reliable transportation.
