Awesome teacher walks students home from school every day

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Teachers at a Memphis school are getting a lot of praise for something they do outside the classroom. Photos showing Carl Schneider, a special education teacher at Whitney Achievement School, walking students home from school went viral on Tuesday.

According to WREG, six teachers volunteer to walk students home each day. Some of the students live quarter-mile from the school. Nearly 200 students take part in the walking program.

"We saw a need and it makes sense. We want to make sure the kids get home safely," said Chris Hill, a spokesperson for the school district.

Hill said Schneider volunteers for the program because it allows him to bond with the students outside the classroom.
