WASHINGTON -- The U.S. Supreme Court has decided not to hear George Huguely's appeal, according to a report in the Daily Progress. Huguely, a former University of Virginia lacrosse player, was sentenced to 23 years in prison for the 2010 murder of his ex-girlfriend Yeardley Love. Love was an athlete on Virginia's women's lacrosse team.
A Charlottesville jury convicted Huguely of second-degree murder in 2012. Huguely admitted to breaking into Love’s apartment and slamming her head into a wall repeatedly -- but he maintained he never intended to kill his one-time girlfriend.
Last year the Virginia Supreme Court denied Huguely’s appeal. In March 2014, the state Court of Appeals also rejected Huguely’s request for a new trial.
This is a developing story.
