RICHMOND, Va. — The West Main Village in combination with Carytown Merchants Association will provide Richmond residents and tourists free Trolley rides around the city this weekend.
BJ Kocen, the spokesperson of The West Main Village, said they wanted to embrace the UCI bike race and get residents and tourists to come explore the city.
Kocen said it cost the businesses around $2,000 to $3,000 to rent the Trolley, but they wanted it to be free for the public to really encourage people to use the shuttle.
The rides will take place Friday and Saturday starting at 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday September 27 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Trolley runs every 30 minutes until 6pm. There are 5 stops:
The Carytown-West Main Village Free Connector includes the following stops:
- City Stadium
- McCloy St. and West Cary St
- Vine St. & West Main St.
- Crenshaw & West Cary St.
- In front of Sticky Rice ~2232 W Main St.
- Back to City Stadium
You can hop on the trolley at any stop.
The 1600 block of West Main Street has also created a Fan Zone with bike vendors including Giant Bicycles Pop-Up shop, Sram Socal Club and p’ART Gallery.
While locals and tourists watch the race they can also visit art exhibits, get chair massages, visit local restaurants and cafes, as well as many other attractions.
The West Main Village is made up of business owners in and around the 1600 block of West Main Street. It’s a grass roots merchants association established solely for the bike race.
Kocen said they wanted to bring the businesses of West Main Street together to “embrace the race.”
Event parking will be accessible on N Vine Street and bike valet will be provided by Lucky’s Bicycles on 1613 W. Main St.
