HOPEWELL, Va. — The Hopewell police department are the latest to issue body cameras to their officers.

The program began on September 17 and should be fully implemented by October 1, 2015.

The department recently purchased 67 TASER AXON body cameras; enough for every officer.

“Axon cameras have proven to enhance public trust, protect officers from false claims, improve civilian behavior, decrease litigation, and make communities safer,” Hopewell police said in a press release Monday.

The video automatically uploads via a docking station to EVIDENCE.com, a cloud based storage and management system, where it can be easily accessed for review.

The site automates the upload process to ensure security and integrity while keeping officers in the field.

“We developed this program with accountability as a priority. Equipping our officers with body cameras demonstrates our continuing commitment to earn the public’s trust,” said Chief John Keohane.
